Reliance launches internet-enabled Jio Bharat phones for ₹999, beta trials to begin from July 7
With the rise of the 5G revolution, Reliance Jio is getting ready to introduce affordable internet-enabled phones for only ₹999. The company started testing the initial batch of 1 million Jio Bharat phones on July 7th. These budget-friendly phones aim to provide internet access to 250 million people who currently use basic feature phones.
Jio Bharat will be priced at ₹999 and comes with two significantly cheaper calling and data plans. According to updates shared by the company, the monthly plan is 30% cheaper than feature phone offerings of other operators and comes with seven times more data.
Reliance Jio is planning to borrow more than $1 billion to buy equipment for their 5G network, as reported. They aim to provide internet services to around 250 million mobile users who are still using older 2G technology. Chairman Akash Ambani mentioned that many people can't access basic internet features, especially when the world is moving towards 5G technology.
The company is going to conduct initial tests of their upcoming Jio Bharat phones in about 6,500 tehsils (administrative divisions).
In another news, leaked images of the Reliance Jio Phone 5G have surfaced, revealing details about its display. It's expected to be priced below ₹10,000.
According to an analyst report, Jio is leading the way in bringing 5G to India, with Bharti Airtel following behind. The report from JP Morgan noted that Bharti Airtel is not as fast in rolling out 5G across different areas compared to Reliance Jio, which could result in potential market share loss if they don't catch up.
